Neumann University is a private Roman Catholic, coeducational college in the Franciscan tradition located in Aston, Pennsylvania, USA. Neumann was ranked in both the Best Regional Universities (North) and Best Nursing Programs at the graduate level categories by US News & World Report for 2011.[2] The University is also ranked by the Princeton Review as among the "Best in the Northeast".

History

Neumann was founded as Our Lady of Angels College with 115 female students in 1965 by the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia. The name was changed to Neumann College in 1980 in honor of Saint John Neumann, a former Bishop of Philadelphia. Neumann achieved 'university status' from the Pennsylvania Department of Education in 2009. Today, there are over 3,000 undergraduate and graduate students enrolled at Neumann. The student:faculty ratio is 14:1.

The University's liberal arts curriculum is fully accredited and centers on a wide range of majors and minors including Accounting, Anthropology, Art, Arts Production and Performance, Athletic Training, Biology, Business Administration, Chemistry, Communication and Media Arts, Computer and Information Management, Criminal Justice, Education (including Early Childhood, Elementary, Special Education, & Secondary Education), English, Environmental Studies and Education, Foreign Language Studies, Franciscan Studies, History, International Business, Intelligence Studies, Journalism, Liberal Studies, Marketing, Musical Theater, Natural Science, Nursing, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology, Theater Arts, Theology, Writing, Sociology, Sports and Entertainment Management, and Youth Ministry. In addition to these majors and minors, the Division of Arts and Sciences provides specialty programs such as Pre-Pharmacy, Pre-Law, Pre-Medicine, and the University Honors Program.

Graduate programs at both masters and doctoral levels are offered in Education, Nursing, Pastoral Care and Counseling, Physical Therapy, Sports Management, and Strategic Leadership. Neumann also offers an associates degree program and an accelerated bachelor's degree program for adults.

Athletics

Neumann is a member of the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) as well as the Eastern College Athletic Conference West (ECAC West). The university fields nineteen teams with approximately 300 student-athletes competing in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), Division III. Neumann is also a member of the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) and the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC).

Neumann University offers study abroad programs every semester. Students can choose from a variety of programs in locations throughout Australia, China, Europe (France, Italy, & Spain), England, & Ireland.

Residence Life at Neumann

At Neumann University, there are four residence halls, or Living and Learning Centers. The rooms are suite style housing either four or six residents. Each suite includes two bedrooms, a common area, and one bathroom with a shower, toilet, and two sinks. Other amenities include 24-hour computer labs and study lounges, a fitness center, laundry rooms, reflection rooms for meditation or prayer, and 24/7 security. There are also apartment complexes on campus for upperclassmen which include a kitchen, living room, and individual bathrooms. Additionally, there is off-campus housing at "The Annex" located in Media, Pennsylvania.

Each Living and Learning Center has full time Residence Life Building Coordinators (BC'S). There are also 28 Resident Assistants (RA's), who are full-time Neumann University students elected by the Director of Residence Life and the Residence Life Professional Staff.

Child Development Center

Neumann University has a state licensed Child Development Center on campus available for children ages 3–5 years old. The sessions are 12 months long and include both full and half day programs. The CDC allows Neumann's Elementary Education majors the opportunity to complete early childhood field observations, practical experiences, student teaching, and other course related work.
